MegaMinds and FERPA
The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) (20 U.S.C. §1232g; 34 CFR Part 99) is a federal law that protects the privacy of student education records. MegaMinds is fully committed to safeguarding student information and ensuring that all data shared through our platform is handled in accordance with FERPA requirements.
We recognize that educational institutions entrust us with sensitive student information when using MegaMinds. Information about a school or district’s students may be maintained within MegaMinds, including through integrations such as Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) connections with a learning management system (LMS).
Under FERPA’s “school official” exception, MegaMinds acts as a School Official with a legitimate educational interest when providing educational services on behalf of the institution. This means MegaMinds is granted access only to the data necessary to deliver and support our platform’s educational functions.
MegaMinds agrees that all officers, employees, and authorized agents who have access to personally identifiable student information (PII) will:
- Use such information solely for legitimate educational purposes;
- Maintain strict confidentiality and data security standards; and
- Not disclose or use student data for any purpose other than to operate or improve MegaMinds’ educational services.
Any data received from educators, administrators, or students will be used only within the scope of delivering and supporting MegaMinds’ functionality and in compliance with FERPA.
